Pure product is a white crystal, melting point: 90-91¨¬C.technical product is colorless, hygroscopic, needle-like crystal, melting point: 70 - 80¨¬C, D4^20 =1.350. It is easily soluble in water and polar solvents, but decomposed by alkali. E.C. is yellowish and transparent liquid, which may separate out crystals in cold and will recover homogeneous when warmed to 30¨¬C.
