CARDURA Resin E-10 Glycidyl Ester, the glycidyl ester of a synthetic saturated monocarboxylic acid, is a low viscosity (7.1 cP at 25'C) liquid which, on a cost/performance basis, is an attrac-tive viscosity reducing reactive diluent for liquid epoxy resins. The physical properties of CAR-DURA Resin E-10 Glycidyl Ester are fully described in Technical Bulletin SC:1408, "CARDURA Resin E-10 Glycidyl Ester - Properties and Applications." Due to its low vapor pressure, CARDURA Resin E-10 Glycidyl Ester is not considered a likely inhalation hazard at room temperature. This characteristic makes it particularly suited for uses where the safe handling behavior of the product, with respect to vapor pressure, is particularly important. The viscosity of liquid resin blends containing CARDURA Resin E-10 Glycidyl Ester will depend upon the proportion of product incorporated. As with all diluents, with increasing amounts of CARDURA Resin E-10 Glycidyl Ester there is some reduction in the properties (mechanical and chemical resistance) of the cured resin blend although, as will be shown later, this reduction is not very great. The proportion of CARDURA Resin E-10 Glycidyl Ester used will therefore depend on the nature of the end-use and the balance required between final resin viscosity and ease of handling on the one hand and the level of cured properties on the other. This Technical Bulletin provides data on the viscosity reducing properties of CARDURA Resin E-10 Glycidyl Ester and on the properties of the resulting cured blends. In all instances, CARDURA Resin E-10 Glycidyl Ester was added to EPON Resin 828. The resin blends tested were EPON Resin 828/CARDURA Resin E-10 Glycidyl Ester in the following ratios (% weight) 100/0, 90/10, 85/15 and 80/20. CARDURA Resin E-10 Glycidyl Ester is also compared with a num-ber of other reactive diluents. |
