YL-PI TPO is a UV-initiator for unsaturated polyesters containing styrene and for resins containing acrylic groups. Since YL-PI TPO absorbs in the long-wave region of the UV spectrum, it can also completely cure paints and surfacers pigmented with titanium dioxide. The coatings thus obtained are characterized by extremely low yellowing. So YL-PI TPO can be widely used in IT region, especially for surfacers of optical fibers, CD, credit cards, and/or electronic circuit, etc. YL-PI TPO is added in proportions of 1~3%, expressed in terms of the polymerizable fraction in the paint. Care must be taken when dissolving YL-PI TPO in the usual acrylic monomers (e.g. hexanediol diacrylate) so as to avoid local over-concentrations add the YL-PI TPO whilst stirring the solvent continuously. Because YL-PI TPO absorbs long-wave UV, both it and products containing it are sensitive to daylight. Consequently, light of wavelength less than 500nm must be excluded during storage and processing (e.g., by covering windows and lamps with yellow film). |
