Silicone Emulsion E-209 |
|
Silicone Emulsion E-209 is a specially formulated emulsion of a silicone copolymer developed for release of various plastics in molding operations. It is especially effective in releasing epoxy, polyster and polyurethane from metal or plastic molds. Because it is applied easily and releases quickly, E-209 can increase productivity. Improvement in release and lubricity is characterisitc of E-209 in many applications. Most likely, these benefits are due to greater affinity of the emulsion for the surface of the substrate. Even as a monomolecular film, the performance of the emulsion is improved over heavier applicaitons of conventional silicone fluids. E-209 may be applied by brush or by conventional spraying equipment. It can be diluted easily to low concentrations (0.5% to 2.5% solids) and used directly on the mold. However, if used as supplied, care should be taken to avoid over-application. The silicone fluid portion of E-209 imparts release properties after the evaporation of water and up to 175'C. The number of releases per application will depend upon the type of plastic, design of the mold, and the curing temperature of the plastic. Usually a small experimental test should be performed prior to any production scaleup. |
