Addid 911
Glycidyl trimethoxy functional silane adhesion promoter
ADDID 911 is a glycidyl trimethoxy-functional silane adhesion promoter. In the presence of a suitable, usually acidic, catalyst, ADDID 911 reacts rapidly with water or water-containing solvents eliminating ethanol, to form the silanol adhesion promoter. ADDID 911 reacts approximately five times faster than the triethoxyfunctional Silane GF 82. The silanol condenses further, both with itself and with suitable groups on the substrate, to form a siloxane film bonded to the substrate, with free glycidyl groups that react with functional groups in the coating binder. By reacting with both the substrate and coating binder, ADDID 911 bonds them together. The glycidyl functional group of ADDID 911 must be compatible with the components of the binder. Never mix ADDID 911 with a component of the formulation that might cause premature reaction (such as an amine), since this will reduce the effectiveness of the adhesion promoter.
The aliphatic glycidyl group in ADDID 911 provides a physical and chemical bond to a large number of different binders. Possible binders include phenolics, polyester, PVC, urethane, epichlorhydrin, acrylates, polysulphide and epoxides.
