ProVide was developed in the early 1980s to reduce the incidence of fruit surface russet and improve the overall finish and appearance of apples.
Initially targeted at Golden Delicious, a cultivar notorious for its russet problem, ProVide is now used on many other cultivars with the same success.
ProVide applications also help increase fruit size.
Another use of ProVide is to reduce fruit cracking in Stayman apples and other cracking-prone cultivars.
