Occasionally an electrocoloring solution can become cloudy and the suspended matter deposited on the processed surfaces.
This is particularly noticeable on black and the darker bronze colors.
The turbidity or cloudiness is usually the result of one or both of the following conditions:
- High productivity of dark shades and black, which demand long immersion times. This situation reduces the time in which the solution is at rest and can produce a colloidal solution in which a small amount of tin is suspended.
- Failure to follow dissolution procedure when using tin sulfate powder.
When a powder residual remains on the work piece it is necessary to clarify the solution.
Simple filtration will not always produce satisfactory results and it may be necessary to use an appropriate additive to assist with sedimentation and subsequent filtration.
MG 160 has been produced to aid in the clarification and filtration process. |
