Benzyl Alcohol |
|
Benzyl alcohol is a clear, colorless liquid with a mild, pleasant aromatic odor. It is a primary alcohol, with reactive methylene and nuclear hydrogen groups, Benzyl alcohol reacts readily to form esters and other compounds and thus is used frequently as a chemical intermediate. Benzyl alcohol's strong polarity and limited water solubility make it a useful solvent. Grades of benzyl alcohol available from Velsicol, along with their corresponding end uses are: Technical grade is a high purity grade designed for industrial use. It is used as a degreasing agent in cleaners and as a solvent for ink and coatings. As a reactive intermediate, benzyl alcohol reacts quickly with various acids to form esters useful in the soap, perfume and flavor industries. Photographic grade is a high purity grade for solvent uses. It also is used as a bonding aid in nail lacquers and for its solvent and other characteristics in cosmetics. N.F. grade is exceptionally high in purity and is intended for use as a perservative in drugs due to its local anesthetic, antiseptic and solvent properties where N.F. quality is required. - Paint and Coatings - Reactive Intermediates Consumer products: Cosmetics and deodorants preparations. Industrial applications: Solvent for dyestuffs. Photographic developer. Textile industry: Process of dyeing polyamide filament and textiles. |
