The Inolex line of short chain alcohol esters is derived from the esterification of long chain carboxylic acids with isopropyl, isobutyl, and n-butyl alcohols. Inolex manufactures a full line of isopropyl esters with viscosities ranging from 3 to 6 cSt @ 40'C. While each of these materials is a good lubricant, a key advantage of the isopropyl esters is their outstanding hydrolytic stability. This is due to the strength of the secondary ester linkage. This makes the isopropyl esters particularly effective in aqueous systems. Each of the short chain alcohol esters has good low temperature flow properties, a high viscosity index, and is fully biodegradable. |
