The two prinicipal isomers of TDI are classified as 2,4-toluene diisocyanate and 2,6-toluene diisocyanate. The blends called TDI 80 - Type 1, TDI 80 - Type 2, and Scuranate T80 are a mixture of 80% 2,4-toluene diisocyanate and 20% 2,6-toluene diisocyanate. TDI (as well as other isocyanates) is a toxic and reactive chemical which requires correct handling to ensure that it is used safely. This means avoiding inhalation, skin contact, or ingestion. In particular, inhalation of vapors, aerosols, and dust should be avoided, since this can lead to irritation and in extreme cases to a reduction of lung function and/or sensitization. Major applications for TDI-80 and Scuranate T80 include polyurethane flexible foam (slab/molding), elastomers, paints/coatings, adhesives, and binders. |
