Eastman TMPD Glycol (2,2,4-trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol) is used to make polyester resins for high solid coatings and corrosion resistant unsaturated polyester.
The bulky side group helps provide coatings with good hydrolytic stability.
The secondary alcohol has only moderate reactivity and therefore special care is necessary to ensure complete reaction with minimum decomposition.
Avoid rapid heating and limit reaction temperature to 215'C.
TMPD waxy solid is available in 400 lb drums.
