CENTURY D-1 |
Fatty Acid |
CENTURY D-1 Fatty Acid is the monomeric fatty acid distillate obtained from the dimerization reaction of tall oil fatty acid. CENTURY D-1 is a mixture of branched and straight chain fatty acids. CENTURY D-1 can be esterified to derivatives that are useful as components of cutting oils, grinding compounds, textile-drawing lubricants, defoamers and plasticizers. Polyol esters of CENTURY D-1 would also act as a dispersant for drilling muds and as a de-emulsifier in oil field production chemicals. Soaps of CENTURY D-1 can be used as flotation agents as well as thickeners in greases and lubricant oil formulations. The same soaps would have a wide variety of functional uses in a number of oil field applications, depending on how the solubility characteristics of CENTURY D-1 derivatives are modified. For example, emulsifier, de-emulsifier, viscosifier, gelling agent, corrosion inhibitor and scale inhibitor in drilling muds, stimulation chemicals, production chemicals and workover and completion fluids. CENTURY D-1 is rich in isostearic acid, which can be extracted. The isostearic acid can then be used to make purer derivatives. Some of these products could be excellent substitutes for the higher-priced oleic acid derivatives. |
