Hubercarb (W Series) |
|
The Hubercarb product line of ground calcium carbonates is one of the broadest lines in the world. Grades vary from coarse granular extenders to ultrafine fillers with the option of various surface treatments and physical properties. The W Series calcium carbonates are of a very pure (99+%), low crystalline silica content quality. They have crystalline silica content less than 0.1% which eliminates warning labels on packages and potential health concerns. These fillers also have a very low tendency to pick up moisture. Calcium carbonates are also commonly referred to as: limestone, whiting, marble, natural calcite and chalk. Calcium carbonates are general purpose, non-reinforcing fillers utilized primarily as extenders in rubber and plastic applications to reduce cost. High loadings are incorporated into formulations with relatively low viscosity build up, minimal change in physical properties and good color development. The purified W Series fillers have a chalk-like softness and more rounded particle shape than typical ground calcium carbonates which contributes to low abrasiveness, reduced equipment maintenance, improved surface finish and impact properties. Typical loading range from 20 phr to 200 phr. Due to their low moisture pick up and purity, these extenders are used in wire and cable formulations and non-black or colored compounds. Surface treatments are available to promote: easier incorporation, improved dispersion and physical properties, reduce moisture pick up and lower mixing and extrusion power. |
