RSC-2954
Phenolic hydroxyl functional arylether
This data summary describes some properties of RSC-2954 and a suggested starting point composition for arylether-epoxy hybrid powder coatings.
Co-reactant RSC-2954 is a phenolic hydroxyl functional arylether.
Depicted below is an idealized structure for RSC-2954.
The terminal phenolic hydroxyl groups can react readily with epoxy functional resins, when properly catalyzed, to yield arylether-epoxy hybrids.
There is a need for a binder system that will give good flow and relatively rapid cure response in applications where temperature will be limited to about 140'C. In order to meet this low temperature cure requirement, the components of the formulation must have acceptable low viscosity and high reactivity at the proposed low temperature cure conditions.
In addition, the combined components must have a reasonably high physical and chemical stability.
In many cases resistance to discoloration, if subjected to higher than anticipated cure sched-ules, is also a requirement.
This preliminary data summary lists the properties of components which, when properly formulated, can meet these requirements.
