Aquatreat AR-550 |
|
AQUATREATR AR-550 boiler water dispersant is one of a new family of high performance sulfonated copolymers. It is a 6500 molecular weight copolymer of acrylate and sulfonated monomers. Like other products in this new line, the sulfonated monomers used combine hydrophobic characteristics, aromatic structure and high charge density. This unique combination of monomers and statistically optimized molecular weight has resulted in a copolymer with multifunctional performance characteristics. In addition to boiler and geothermal applications, AQUATREAT AR-550 can also be used in industrial cooling water systems that utilize phosphate or zinc corrosion program. It is a superior calcium phosphate inhibitor and is especially useful when iron and zinc deposition problems are encountered. Exceptional thermal stability allows AQUATREAT AR-550 to maintain performance characteristics normally associated with sulfonated copolymers after exposure to elevated pressure and temperature. In some performance tests it actually performs better after exposure to continuously higher pressures. Competitive copolymers and terpolymers that derive their sulfonation functionality from the incorporation of AMPSR Monomer or sulfonated styrene into the polymer chain suffer significant loss of performance as an iron oxide dispersant, colloidal iron stabilizer and iron inhibitor at unexpectedly low temperatures and pressures. This loss of performance is demonstrated in new laboratory test methods developed in Alco Chemical¡¯s application laboratories and can be explained by a combination of polymer chain fragmentation and loss of sulfonate functionality. In performance tests, AQUATREAT AR-550 has outperformed the long time industry accepted standard sulfonated styrene maleic copolymers. |
