PX-126, Ditridecyl Phthalate, is a primary plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride resins and copolymers. PX-126 has been developed to fill the need for a low cost yet superior plasticizer in electrical wire compounding. Formulations made from PX-126 exhibit low volatility and excellent resistance to chemical breakdown at high temperatures. The critical requirement of retention of elongation on heat aging in wire insulation is greatly increased with the use of ditridecyl phthalate in addition to the outstanding heat aging properties, PX-126 compounds exhibit good insulation resistance after water immersion and good retention of elongation and tensile strength after oil immersion. The plastisol viscosity stability of PX-126 is excellent although the initial viscosity is somewhat higher due to the inherent viscosity of the ester. Another favorable property exhibited by PX-126 is the low soapy water extraction from cured films. The unique properties of PX-126 should be of particular interest in such applications as high temperature wire insulation, water and oil resistant jacketing compounds, anti-fogging automotive upholstery, gasketing, and other specialty items. PX-126 is available with bisphenol A for electrical applications and where otherwise required.
