Data generated on POLY-GRADE II to date, indicate that enhanced degradability will take place in any bacterially active environment. Tests on film containing POLY-GRADE II buried in soil have shown significant degradation occurring in as little as six months. The new product combines starch and other ingredients which will produce chemical breakdown of the film. POLY-GRADE II works through an oxidative action, and, in the presence of a bacterially active environment, the starch will be digested and the film will lose its mechanical integrity. ' Several independent studies are in progress which will provide Ampacet with improved definitions of deterioration in a variety of mediums including compost and water. Residual matter will be analyzed for chemical make-up. Polyethylene films containing this new concentrate, when properly stored, have a more than adequate "shelf life" for most products. |
