Developmental high temperature chemical foaming agent EXPANDEX 175 is a high temperature chemical foaming agent based on the barium salt of 5-phenyltetrazole. EXPANDEX 175 has been designed for specialty engineering resins and polymers that are processed at temperatures requiring the maximum chemical blowing agent decomposition temperatures. |

Appearance: White Crystalline Powder Moisture Content: 3.0% maximum Gas Yield: 177 ml/g Decomposition Temperature: 375C. (707F.) Specific Gravity: 1.671 Solubilities (25C.): Water: 150 g/l DMSO: 80 g/l Methyl Alcohol: 38 g/l Acetone: 2 g/l Toluene: 2 g/l Recommended Processing Range: 370-390C. (700-735F.) Due to its high decomposition temperature, EXPANDEX 175 provides a means of achieving "sink" elimination and density reduction in high temperature plastics such as nylons, aromatic polyesters and polysulf ones. XPANDEX 175 has a decomposition temperature high enough to prevent premature blowing agent decomposition during processing. XPANDEX 175 may also be employed as an intumescent agent in synthetic polymers which process below its decomposition temperature. When the polymer is exposed to open flame or high heat conditions, the plastic forms a foam and an insulating char-type material. (U.S. Patent #3,873,477) |
