Developmental High Temperature Chemical Foaming Agent EXPANDEX 150 is a high temperature chemical foaming agent based on the calcium salt of 5-phenyltetrazole. EXPANDEX 150 has been designed for specialty polymers and resins requiring higher decomposition than other high temperature blowing agents. Due to its high decomposition temperature, EXPANDEX 150 provides a means of achieving "sink" elimination and density reduction in high temperature plastics such as nylons, aromatic polyesters and polysulf ones. These polymers often process at temperatures above the decomposition temperature of standard high temperature chemical foaming agents. EXPANDEX 150 has a decomposition temperature high enough to prevent premature blowing agent decomposition during processing. EXPANDEX 150 may also be employed as an intumescent agent in synthetic polymers which process below its decomposition temperature. When the polymer is exposed to open flame or high heat conditions, the plastic forms a foam and an insulating char-type material. (U.S. Patent #318731477) |
