ALCOA LUBRAL products are specially precipitated and surfacetreated hydrated aluminas. LUBRAL 710 has a sharp uniform particle size distribution averaging about one micron in diameter and is an extra-fine crystalline, pure white powder. For improved compatibility with plastic matrices, LUBRAL 710 is coated with a low level of organic material. LUBRAL products can beused extensively where extremely fine hydrated aluminas are needed, such as reinforcing pigments and filler, in mechanical rubber goods, adhesives and adhesive tapes, various thermoplastics and ingredients in polishes and waxes. Representative Applications: LUBRAL products can be added to both natural and synthetic rubbers with significant improvements in fire retardancy and smoke suppression. Alcoa generally recommends LUBRAL 710 for use as an FR and smoke suppressant filler for polyolefins, PVC, PVA and other thermoplastics that can be processed below 230C. Alcoa also recommends LUBRAL 710 for highly filled wire and cable insulation: jacketing or sheathing. Substantial improvements in fire retardance have been found with EPDM,EPM, Crosslinked PE and EAR, as well as PVC. LUBRAL products have been shown to be the only fire retardant and smoke suppressant additive needed to reach UL94 V-O ratings with polypropylene compounds. By proper selection of thepolypropylene/LUBRAL system, compounding Conditions and molding conditions, very good physical and electrical properties can be achieved |
