USP 800 initiator is a convenient source of free radicals for use as an initiator for polymerization of monomers such as acrylates, methacrylates, styrene, vinyl toluene, vinyl acetate and others. It can also be used as a curing or crosslinking initiator for unsaturated polyester resins. USP 800 initiator is particularly useful where emulsion polymerization processes are employed. USP 800 initiator is used in the epoxidation of olefins, as well as an oxidizing agent. Some polymers can be modified (molecular weight reduction) through the use of t-butyl hydroperoxide. USP 800 initiator is used as a bleaching agent for products such as pulp or textiles. Miscellaneous uses include surface modification of fillers, desulfurization of hydrocarbons, and as a bacteriocide. |
