TAURANOL I-78C is a novel addition to the TAURANOL Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate series. In physical form TAURANOL I-78C consists of short, variable length cylinders ("noodles") of approximately 1 mm in diameter. The essential benefit of TAURANOL I-78C is its ease of handling. It is non-dusting, yet possesses an extremely high surface area, providing for easy incorporation during manufacturing. The chemical character of TAURANOL I-78C is identical to TAURANOL I-78 (powder) and TAURANOL I-78 FLAKES, and bridges the gap between the powder and flake from the point of view of manufacturing: that is, it is recommended where dusting represents a problem in production or where time of incorporation is a serious concern. TAURANOL I-78C (Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate) finds wide application in all types of Personal Care products. It is a mild cleansing agent for skin and hair which produces a thick, creamy foam under minimum energy input. Formulated ideally within 1 pH unit of neutral, TAURANOL I-78C provides good flash foam and foam "feel" popular in modern cleansers. Used as a co-surfactant to more conventional anionic surfactants, TAURANOL I-78C modifies the foam and feel of inexpensive formulations to give a rich, cream sophistication at modest upcharge. TAURANOL I-78C confers a soft, velvety afterfeel from most formulations, including those based on soap. Soap is the historical anionic surfactant whose properties are modified by Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate. This combination, the classical "combo bar", is the solid form delivery system for bath and shower use which produces luxurious foam and feel in use, and a lubricious feel on the skin after drying. The ultimate bar based solely on Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, the "syndet bar", further capitalizes on the extreme mildness of this compound and becomes particularly useful for facial care. TAURANOL I-78C is also useful in liquid formulation for bath, shower and facial care. Formulations in which TAURANOL I-78C is the prime or sole surfactant are easily constructed to meet varying product and functional properties. Clear, pearlescent or opaque liquids of high or low viscosity, generally at near-neutral pH's, are possible with minimum energy input and maximum efficiency of manufacture. |
