Sodium MBT is used as a collector, either by itself or in blends, in the extraction of elements as lead, zinc, gold and silver from their sulphite or oxide compounds in froth flotation of non-ferrous ores. It shows high selectivity, better recovery and shorter conditioning times than most competitive collectors, reducing the silica gangue carried over. - Sodium MBT is widely used as a corrosion inhibitor in aqueous systems. It is particular suitable for application in antifreez, hydraulic fluids, coolants and in air conditioning and refrigeration units. - As a heterocyclic N-S compound, it interferes with the cell metabolism causing dysfunctionality and destruction of the cell, providing functionality as biocide. - As an organic intermediate, (Na) mercaptobenzothiazole offers a reative hydrogen ion in the thiol group as well as undergoing benzene reactions. |
