SILBOND HT-28A is a patented, prehydrolyzed ethyl silicate binder formulated for use as a vehicle in low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) two-package inorganic zinc-rich primers. Being formulated with two different types of high purity inorganic silica binding species in a mixed dipropylene glycol methyl ether-ethyl alcohol and higher boiling ketone-type solvent system, SILBOND HT-28A has a relatively high nonvolatile solids content which is designed to meet primer VOC regulations 2.8 pounds per gallon (340 g./liter). Generally no further solvent additions to SILBOND HT-28A are required.
Applications for SILBOND HT-28A ethyl silicate binder are in-shop zinc priming, zinc coatings for shipbuildings, offshore drilling, bridges, industrial plants, and other areas where high quality corrosion resistance is needed.
