A reactive monomer. This ester may bepolymerized or copolymerized with other monomers such as vinyl acetate, vinyl chloride, acrylates and styrene. When dioctyl maleate is copolymerized with other monomers, it acts as an internal plasticizer adding elasticity and flexibility to the films. Because of the chemical bonding, the internally plasticized copolymer film is not subject to embrittlement due to loss of plasticizer by evaporation. Dioctyl maleate copolymer finds use in emulsion type paints, paper and textile coatings, adhesives and oil additives. It is also an intermediate for surfactants and wetting agents. In emulsion type paints its high resistance to humidity and ultra-violet light make it especially suitable for outdoor applications. PX-538 is practically a colorless liquid and contains no polymerization inhibitors. Due to its high purity, it has excellent shelf life. |
