Octopol SBZ-20 may be used as an accelerator for use in Natural latex, SBR, and CR latex compounds, where it activates thiazoles in the latex cure system. Recommended use level is 1.0 - 1.5 parts active per 100 parts latex. This product is used in processes where the formation of volatile nitrosoamines is to be reduced. It is also suggested for use in the polymerization of chloroprene rubber as a peptizing agent. Octopol SBZ-20 is recommended to the synthetic rubber industry for use as a polymerization shortstop ingredient in copolymerization of butadiene, styrene and neoprene. Batch-polymerization reactions are activated by organic hydroperoxides and made at relatively low temperatures. This process maybe "shortstopped" with dithiocarbamate at a predetermined conversion point. Addition of the dithiocarbamate reduces the peroxide catalyst and polymerization stops. This process is the means of obtaining certain desired polymer physical properties. |
