ALCOA HYDRAL products are specially precipitated hydrated aluminas.
HYDRAL 710 has an extra-fine, uniform particle size averaging about 1 micron in diameter.
HYDRAL PGA is HYDRAL 710 that has been spray-dried in the presence of a dispersant.
Spray drying agglomerates the small crystals into spherical particles, increasing the bulk density and improving flow characteristics for better handling and bulk shipping.
The dispersant used in HYDRAL PGA causes the material to disperse readily when added to water, forming a stable high-solid suspension.
HYDRAL PGA's spherical particles are readily broken down into individual crystals during the medium- to high-intensity mixing found in most plastics compounding operations.
These products are available in bulk.
All HYDRAL products are fine crystalline, organic-free, pure white powders. These products can be tailored for specific applications.
Applications and Product Benefits:
HYDRAL alumina is an outstanding fire retardant and smoke suppressant and can improve arc track resistance in thermoset and thermoplastics as well as elastomeric copolymers.
HYDRAL products are used in fillers and coating pigments in fine printing papers for increased brightness, smoothness, and opacity.
Vinyls compounded with HYDRAL alumina exhibit high strength and impact resistance and show less tendency to flex-whiten.
As a reinforcing pigment in adhesives and adhesive tapes, HYDRAL products improve cold flow properties, maintain the neutrality or alkalinity of the composition, and increase cohesion.
HYDRAL products are useful in waxes and polishes when a relatively soft and extremely fine mild abrasive is required.
HYDRAL hydrated alumina's is extreme fineness, smooth texture, and ease of dispersion make it an excellent filler or base in cosmeti.c powders, lotions, and a good polishing agent in dentifrices.
