Accelerator Z.P.D. is an ultra-accelerator for dry natural rubber. It is slightly less active and is safer processing than Accelerator MZ and Accelerator EZ, non-discoloring and non-staining, and is easily incorporated into rubber. It is particularly useful in the formulation of footwear. Accelerator Z.P.D. alone may be considered too scorchy an accelerator for general use. Processing safety may be increased, with some improvement in physical properties and no loss of curing speed, by the addition of small amounts of MBTS (0.05 - 0.2 phr). Conversely, where MBTS is too slow-curing when used alone, the curing speed and state of cure may both be improved by the addition of small amounts of Accelerator Z.P.D. This does, to some extent, impair the excellent scorch characteristics of MBTS, but the mixes are still to be considered as reasonably safe. The effects are progressive with increase in Z.P.D. dosage (0.1 - 0.3 phr). |
