Great Lakes DBS
ETHENYLBENZENE AR-BROMO DERIVS.
Dibromostyrene
125904-11-2
Reactive Halogenated Flame Retardant
Great Lakes DBS, dibromostyrene is a reactive monomer containing 59% aromatic bromine. It is somewhat more reactive than styrene monomer, yet is stable when inhibited with conventional stabilizers. Great Lakes DBS will readily form homopolymers or copolymers.
Great Lakes DBS has been successfully derivatized into its homopolymer (Great Lakes PDBS-80) by using a reactive extrusion process. Graft copolymers of Great Lakes DBS with polypropylene (Great Lakes GPP-36 and GPP-39) and with metallocene based polyolefins have been commercially demonstrated, similarly, grafting onto a variety of other polymeric substrates (eg: EVA) using reactive extrusion is possible. Uses for these polymeric flame retardants have been found in a variety of thermoplastics (eg: polyamidesm, polyesters, polyolefins).
