Wentong Group, founded in 1995 with fixed assets of 1 billion yuan, is a large enterprise of potassium salt in inorganic industry in China, combining R&D, production, supply and marketing into one. Its predecessor is Shanxi Wenshui Chemical Factory established in 1954. With headquarter located in Shanghai and production based in Shanxi and Qinghai province, Wentong now has more than 3,500 employees. And there are 10 manufacturing enterprises, 12 marketing companies and direct sales departments in the Group. It also has set up branch companies and offices in Malaysia, Australia and Korea etc. The products are quite popular at both domestic and overseas markets. In 2003, the total export revenue reached 36 million dollars.
Wentong Group is a technology forerunner and regarded as one of the ten key private enterprises protected by Shanxi government. Wentong is the largest potassium carbonate producer in the world and the largest potassium nitrate manufacturer in China. All the products, including potassium carbonate, potassium nitrate, ammonium chloride, potassium sulphate, calcium ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate and nitrite sodium with seventeen specifications, are appraised as high quality products in Shanxi province. The company itself developed production technology of potassium carbonate and potassium carbonate. The high efficiency and energy-saving technology of iron-exchange for potassium nitrate gained the First Award of Technology Advancement of Shanxi province. TV glass grade potassium carbonate was selected as one of the national key projects of Torch Program. Wentong brand was one of the famous brands in Shanxi province. Not satisfied with its current scale, Wentong insists on accelerating development as the first priority. Now the Group has production capacity of 120,000 ton of potassium carbonate and 100,000 ton of potassium nitrate. And it will increase another 50,000 ton of potassium carbonate, 100,000 ton of potassium nitrate and 600,000 ton of coke when the first stage of the new project co-invested with Qinghai Salt Lake Group with total investment of 0.8 billion is finished. Another new project co-invested by the two parties is carrying out in Qinghai province. There will be another 120,000 tons of potassium hydroxide, 80,000 tons of high-density potassium carbonate, 10,000 tons of PVC and a 90,000kw of generating set.
Wentong Group will insist on the principle of ¡° User first, Staff first ¡± , take technology innovation as the guiding ideology and take full use of the abundant coal resources in Shanxi and potassium chloride resources in Qinghai. The industry link of cogeneration of heat and powder and gas will come to form by changing single coal energy of Shanxi province into intensive management of energy and resources. The project group will also be established with potassium chloride as a core by using the water resources in Qinghai.
