Benzoic acid is a mono-functional, aromatic acid, which is widely used as a building block for the synthesis of alkyd resins.
It is also used as a preservative in select industrial applications.
When used as a component of alkyd resins, it improves gloss, hardness and chemical resistance, When used as a preservative, benzoic acid increases storage stability and reduces corrosion for emulsions, polishes, waxes, paints and liquid detergents.
